Elektra is yet another MARVEL comic book conversion into film. Prior to this installment, the comic to movie trend has been very successful with Spiderman leading the charge. Well I am sorry to report that where Spiderman had found the path to glory, Elektra tried another path and became a disappointment. First off I will give props where it is due and
say Jennifer Garner portrayed the character with beauty, mystique and much sex appeal, but her supporting cast and writers manage to squander her efforts to waste.
The plot was empty, characters were never introduced properly and the viewer has no idea who the bad guys are from beginning to end. The CG was cheesy, for lack of a better word and the coreography was laughable. Not once was I convinced that Elektra was a great superhero, they say she is in the dialogue, but the movie played her down so much I wondered if they were lying. Viewers are led on with quick camera motions, CG graphic weapon attacks and cut scenes leading to an aftermath with nothing to show how things came about. The fighting scenes were simply a mess. One of the things that really made me upset was how easily Elektra wiped out her colorful antagonists without really fighting them. Comic book epics are built and broken by the struggle between good and evil; Batman’s fight with the elusive Joker, Spiderman’s battle with himself and the Green Goblin, Superman versus Lex Luther, the list goes on and on… Even Daredevil had the mighty Kingpin to fight! Elektra didn’t have this sort of conflict, Elektra provided confusion and an enemy that remained a mystery even after the credits went up.
Unless you are a huge (I mean fan-boi huge) Jennifer Garner fan, or an even bigger Elektra fan, stay away from this movie. I will say it again, Jennifer was beautiful, the movie was awful. Think Catwoman… ok I think you know what I mean now.
