In the early years of the Playstation, many gamers can remember popping in Resident Evil for the first time and getting your blood churning from the initial scene of the zombie eating a corpse in that dark room of the mansion. Having been one of the first if not the first game of survival horror, Resident Evil trailblazed the genre for yet another memorable game. Where Resident Evil made us jump, Silent Hill made us whimper; It got at you a deeper way than Resident Evil did and it is probably one of the scariest and freakiest games to date. This success led to three more sequels that delved even deeper into the dark mystery that is Silent Hill and has held true to it’s happy fans even till this day.
Silent Hill the movie does not disappoint, though a bit jerky on the direction and story, fans of the game will be elated at the fact that nothing was spared. The story has been tweaked and changed a bit but the viewer will recognize locales, characters and the mood of the game has strangely been conveyed to the big screen successfully. I could delve into the story but I think it would not do this gem justice to tell you anything. Just be prepared for hell, and please for crying out loud keep the toddlers at home.
Silent Hill is another video game movie to successfully make the transition and having seen it twice in the theaters I anticipate seeing it even more when I own it. Be warned of heavy religious undertones to the makeup of the story so it is not for the easily offended. Eight bright stars for Silent Hill.
My favorite character in this film was detective Sybil Bennet, she was awesome.
