Wow…
Why did we question the success of a new Superman after the death of the legendary Christopher Reeves? Well lets see… Reeves was an untouchable actor as the original Superhero, the 3rd and 4th installment of the series sucked horribly (just like Batman) and actors related some sort of curse with the role. After many failed attempts to score an actor for the role of superman, fans are treated to a relatively unknown face to step into the boots of the late Christopher Reeves and bring the comic book hero to the big screen one more time. The result is an epic film of gigantic proportions leading to huge applause within my little audience and happy fans relieved and ready for any sequel to come.
Director Bryan Singer ditches the concepts of what were Superman’s 3 and 4 to pick up the tale from the climax of 2 when a confused Clark sets off to find the remains of what was his planet Krypton. Returning to earth after five years, Clark finds his true love Lois Lane engaged, with a son and a chip on her shoulder for the long lost Superman. To top things off Lex Luther who Superman had managed to lock away, has slipped out of the arms of lady justice and has resurfaced with new mischief to complicate things…
Brandon Routhe owned the role, with a voice that chillingly echoed memories of the late Christopher Reeves and a face that moistened the underoos of many a female movie-goer, it was impossible to dislike the new Superman. His acting, though a bit stiff at times was reminiscent of someone who has done alot of study into his role before bringing it to action. He was every bit Superman and from voice, to physique, to acting he knocked a homerun into the stands with this one. The music was reminiscent of the originals and the CG sequences coupled with the sound (Superman’s sonic boom effect when flying was on the right side of awesome) made this movie the total package for me. Put another point on the superhero scorecard for DC Comics, between Batman and this gem, I look forward to Wonder Woman or whatever else is on the horizon.
