Oh my god… I am still a bit shaken by what I just saw but to sum it up, I would call this movie a hardcore remix of the first… Nothing new just a lot more hardcore and no Jessica Biel.
Deep in the backwoods of Texas two brothers (Dean and Eric) and their girlfriends Chrissie and Bailey are traveling across state to enlist in the marines for vietnam. In the midst of harassment by biker gangs and endless roads, the group ends up crashing outside of a deserted road and falls victim to the local sheriff Winston Hoyt. What soon starts as a supposed trip to the sheriff’s department lands the young couples into a frenzy of bloody kidnapping, cannibalism and a ruthless monster with a need to wear human flesh.
I must say that this was horror unbound… The gore was such that nothing was left to the imagination and the perspective of hunted via the camera angles added to the uneasiness this film brought. I must give the championship ring to Chrissie* (Jordana Brewster) for about 30 minutes of hardcore Rambolina survival tactics… she was extremely convincing as the victim with nothing to lose. The downside to this film was it’s originality, if I were scoring this based on horror alone it could easily have a perfect 10. However, the lack of depth into the infamous Leather Face’s past and the ridiculously similar plotline to the original… I am forced to drop the grade immensely. This isn’t to say it won’t be a fixture in my collection, I dare say it is more horrific than the first. An awesomely gruesome movie.
