Resident Evil: Extinction

resident-evil-extinctionWith the return of Alice (Milla Jovovich) and the introduction of gamer favorite Claire Redfield (Ali Larter), the third Resident Evil has the makings of a fanboi favorite. Set in the aftermath of an immense zombie takeover due to the T-Virus, this movie pits our heroines into an arena that was part Mad Max/Road Warrior and part Night of the Living Dead. Complete with sweaty, flat-chested hotties and wise cracking roughnecks, originality be damned, this movie was made for the boys.

Being a fanboi myself, of the game, Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter from Heroes fame, I feel a bit of bias reviewing this film because, I’m gonna be honest when I say that it deserves no awards lol. That being said, the loud noises, zombie FX and ass-kickery alone warrants some praise because it was very entertaining. One of my only gripes however was the make-up… I mean, I am not sure what they were trying to do with our dear Alice but her plastic-like face looked very much like a porcelain doll’s on the close-ups but back to natural sweat and dirt when the camera panned out… wtf is that!? Claire Redfield, who is something of a badass in the game series (check the intro to Code Name Veronica) is cast as a concerned leader who is as stiff as a glass of scotch. She is a dead-eye with the guns but honey did no running, no ass-kicking and barely got any action aside from her Tombstone-like waltz towards a triad of zombies going to town on some kid…. yawn… that was soooo not Claire Redfield. I felt like maybe Ali was wounded in the making of the film, so they didn’t unleash her to showcase the moves like her alter-ego in Heroes… oh well.

Alice was a different story, this movie was all about her and she is unleashed. I mean strategic Pwnage at it’s worst, roundhousing zombies to break their necks, dual wielding machetes, jump kicking dogs, you name it. She even has Force powers… ok that’s going a bit too far but she damn near has the Force, I think she can take Anakin, I swear! Her in contrast to Claire made me sad, because lets face it Claire is SUPPOSED to be a badass! Alice really did not need them dumbing Claire down to showcase skill, I think it would’ve even help the movie, but lets move on. Mike Epps returns with his two golden Desert Eagles, sigh… and Carlos as well. Oh ya and the ending was Meh, makes me think that a Sci Fi series may be in the works… maybe our Sci Fi queen Kristanna Loken will quit Painkiller Jane to play series Alice for us? Hmmmm. Rent this one fellas, I saw it twice and loved it but I am biased, don’t waste your money.
