King Henry VIII says that you’re a Nigger too

king henry King Henry VIII says that youre a Nigger tooSigh… when will this word lose it’s power over people?

Today marks another day when an actor proves to the public that they are not fantastical beings of abnormality, but that they are human beings too. Now normally I don’t post celebrity screw-ups here on Spicy (I have other sites for that) but this one is relevant being that I am a Mel Gibson fan (more on that later). When I saw the article about Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers a stereotypical “drunken Irishman” calling an airport attendant a nigger – I browsed down to the commentary and noticed amongst the “racism doesn’t exist” drivel, the obligatory “I won’t watch the Tudors ever again raaaaaahhhhh!” stuff was coming from disappointed fans. It made me think, I wonder how these people would feel if all of their favorite actors and celebrity crushes were to just come out and reveal what races they hated, held biases against or lacked empathy for? Whoa wouldn’t that be a killer! Movie theaters would quickly empty and airwaves would be flooded with half-hearted apologies and “I was drunk” excuses… hell we may even see some suicides… from fans that is.

I wanted to bring light to this slip of the N-bomb by Jonathan Rhys Meyers because well we all recall Mel Gibson’s drunken anti-semitic rant so I don’t think he needs to be thrown to the wolves on his lonely. Both men are guilty of one thing “being drunk as a celebrity”. See when you’re drunk and harbor racist feelings that you keep tight daily, the alcohol loosens the tongue and the next thing you know Jewish people and black people are boycotting your shit. Now I understand that Rhys Meyers won’t even feel the pinch of his slight being that not many black people probably even know what the hell The Tudors is much less support it, but going forward he may get some pubic hair in his steak or some spit at his favorite cosmopolitan restaurant… you know what I’m saying?

As movie-watchers we have to come to terms with a few things concerning our beloved, millionaire actors. Are we going to respect the craft for what it is, or are we watching this stuff based on what we feel the actor’s characteristics represent?  I know I’m not a nigger, hell he can bark that at me and I’d have a few right back for him – but if he’s in a show that I’ve already been supporting the most I am going to say is “damn that racist sunovabitch can act!” Lol, I mean shit he has his money already what’s me stopping my watching going to do? The same thing occurred with John Mayer recently, a white man who plays black-centric music saying off-color racist shit to Playboy then wondering why black people and Jessica Simpson wanted to tar and feather his ass out of town. Celebrities are people just like us, some have racist thoughts and some are nice and liberal, either way don’t get it twisted and for Christ’s sakes stop worshiping these people.

Stay classy Jon Jon, I got your nigger right here buddy.

I totally agree that the use of the “n” word is a horrible thing, and should not be tolerated from celebrities or people in general.
I grew up in the projects in NY. I just moved to SC, and Its like walked back in time. I wish to say, that down here prejudice is far from one-way, or even just about race, but also about if you are a Yankee.
What concerns me about your article is the fact that you call him a “stereotypical drunken Irishman”. Isn’t this what racism is all about? It just fuels the fire of any type of racism..do I believe we will ever be free of this in the world? Absolutely not, God has created us all different..as long as there are differences in race, nationality, religious, political beliefs, handicaps and sex..we will always battle this issue. It is up to us If WE handle it with grace.. And teach our children it is wrong..and hope that someday we can all live in peace.

Thanks so much for your input Shonna, unfortunately these stories will continue to happen for quite some time but since this incident I haven’t heard a peep from Meyers which is a good thing. My Irishman remark wasn’t a slight on Irish people but a reminder that we all have heavy stereotypes despite race or culture. Thanks again and I hope you continue to read here.
