Nurse Jackie Recap 2.11 – What the Day Brings

Jackie (Edie Falco) and family plan a getaway road trip to the country. During the day leading up to their departure, Jackie puts Zoey (Merritt Wever) in charge, manages to avoid Dr. O’Hara (Eve Best) and Eddie (Paul Schulze), as well as the drug dealer who she stole from last week. She runs into the bathroom upon sight of the drug dealer and puts her stash into a dental floss container and calls Kevin (Dominic Fumusa) to come pick her up immediately.  Her drugs are safely in her pocket until the floss container falls out during their drive. The dysfunction of the family is shown as Jackie feels the effects of withdrawl, not knowing that the floss container is under the car seat.  In the car Kevin tells her he loves her and she just stares at him with a smile but cannot bring herself to return the words.  To make matters worse, the owner of the Bed and Breakfast they stopped at noticed Jackie’s demeanor, and offered her some Schnapps on the side.  She eventually breaks and tells Kevin she is ready to go home.

Dr. Cooper (Peter Facinelli) wakes up with a cat on his chest with his mouth inches from the tail end and in comes new nurse Sam’s (Arjun Gupta) girlfriend ready for after sex snuggles. He expresses his bad feelings about the situation and she responds that she was going to break up with Sam anyway.  Why do you ask. “Because he’s only a nurse” she responds. Coop later discusses the situation with Eddie not knowing he is biased about the issue, only to be bit back when Sam comes in and Eddie (in front of Coop) encourages Sam to go find out who his girl is messing with  and why she hasn’t returned his calls.

O’Hara has been trying to talk to Jackie all day regarding her “so called” MRI and calls her while Fiona (Mackenzie Aledjem) has her phone. Fiona answers and talks to O’Hara, repeating that she wants to know how she likes her new school. Kevin slams on the breaks and pulls the car over to confirm with Jackie whether or not she took the money from O’Hara after he specifically told her he did not want her paying for the school.  He gets his answer and jumps out of the car. As he is walking down the street Jackie tries to convince the kids that he’s playing a game. Fade to black. Credits roll.

Highlights (those scenes that make the show so great)

  • Thor (Steven Wallem) is usually the feminine soft gay man, but man’s up to let a patient know he means business.
  • Akalitus (Anna Deavere Smith) goes out drinking with O’Hara.
  • A patient who is stabbed in the leg is admitted and Cooper asks if he was mugged by a midget. Zoey starts, “I don’t think that’s…” Cooper interjects “Little person! Sorry ‘Little Nurse Jackie’” referring to the fact that she took over for Jackie.
  • O’Hara to Akalitus, “You aren’t married anymore, why do you wear that ring?”  She responds, “To keep people away; cops, short fat married men. They see me in a nice suit and can’t help themselves. Catnip!”
  • Dr. Cooper waking up to a cat on his chest, tail to face. His allergy to cats gets the better of him throughout the day.
