Nurse Jackie Recap 2.6 – Bleeding

Scene opens with Jackie (Edie Falco) laying in Eddie’s (Paul Schulze) bed. It’s obviously morning as Eddie is in his boxers as he brings her coffee just the way she likes it. As he laid there next to her, he wants to discuss how her day will be with her family in an attempt to get to know that side of her. She indulges him a bit then tells him it’s too weird to discuss her kids and Kevin (Dominic Fumusa) with him. She makes it a point to deny his offer of two “roxies” (roxicodone), telling him that she likes him for him and not because he can give her drugs. He tries to make her elaborate on the “like” part but she refuses.  As she leaves, she tells him that the buddy thing with Kevin has to stop.

***Sidebar…the scene change from Eddie in boxers to Kevin making breakfast makes one realize how her husband is much finer than her jump off.

Jackie comes home in the morning as if she worked all night. Having to have to deal with Kaitlyn (Cassady Leonard), she goes to the basement for her regular stash of pills in the plastic Easter eggs, but they are all gone, so she is forced to deal with her sober. Jackie seems to say aloud to children what most of us would say to ourselves – Kaitlyn asked Fiona (Mackenzie Aladjem) if she still wears diapers and Jackie just looked at her and said, “Kaitlyn, shut the f*ck up!”. To which Kaitlyn just looked very scared and confused.

At All Saints, Akalitus (Anna Deavere Smith) shows her annoyance as she puts up cut outs of Dr. Cooper (Peter Facinelli) to promote the hospital. With the slogan “looks that cure” under his face, Dr. Cooper is getting a bit arrogant in his dealings with patients and staff. By the end of the day his cutout was defaced with “I grab boobs” and he sat in Akalitus’ office all sad with tears in his eyes. Her advice to him – “heavy is the head that wears the crown Dr. Cooper”.

Jackie is on her way out the door and Kevin calls to let her know he is out playing ping pong with Eddie. Mad at the fact that they are still hanging out together, she goes to them and sends Kevin for a round of beer. She asked Eddie what he’s doing and he looked her dead in the eye and said that he never said he would stop hanging out with Kevin, and if she ever lied to him again he will tell Kevin everything. She stares at him intensely and when Kevin comes back with the beer she kisses him in front of Eddie, then tells him to kick his ass in the ping pong game.

Highlights (those scenes that make the show so great)

  • Zoey (Merritt Wever) is convinced she is not ready to be a mother while she sits in the chapel discussing how hard motherhood is with the Virgin Mary.
  • Fiona wanted to see what it was like to wear a cast but she didn’t want to break anything so Jackie casted her arm for her.
  • A kid in the ER has two casted arms and tells Dr. Cooper he has to “go” and he doesn’t mean leave. The task of taking the boy to the bathroom and wiping him afterward was passed on from Jackie to Zoey to new nurse Sam (Arjun Gupta), all in the course of about 3 seconds.
  • Zoey mentions to Jackie that miracles can happen daily, and Jackie replied “yea, like when they made rubbers. You should use them”.
  • Dr. O’hara’s (Eve Best) old girlfriend is in town and she is like a little girl with a new crush. She’s giggly and has a goofy lovestruck look on her face the entire time they are together.
  • Jackie tries to kick the pharmaceutical rep out of the administrative area of the hospital, until he mentions that he has pain killers. She takes some samples and hides them in the trash in the ladies room.
