Let me preface this by saying way-to-go Kristin Bell and Mila Kunis, and I come at this not from a fan-boi point of view but as a movie watcher. Pairing up these two (not so typical) beauties into this romance comedy was a great choice, and having it do so well in the box office makes me happy for both of them. It was by blind chance that I saw this one since I tend to loathe the typical chick-flick with comedy relief that Hollywood spits out oh so often for a quick buck *cough* Ben Stiller (j/k Ben I love ya). But this one had it’s moments… okay the entire movie was funny let me be honest here, I really, really tried to hate it but that Aldo… what a smoothie, no guy could hate this flick.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a romance comedy about a loser who has a trophy girlfriend dump him and his infinite struggle to get over her. Heard it before right? How many times? 1,000,000 times? Or maybe more… ya this isn’t going to win any originality contests. I do not aim to ruin this obviously cliche plot for you but let me break down the cookie cutter version of these movies: Loser has hot girl, girl cheats on loser thus dumping him, loser gets suicidal, loser meets good cute chick who has a kickass personality, loser tries to cheat on good girl to get back with ex, good girl finds out and leaves loser, loser goes on another suicide binge and finds that he is truly in love with good girl, good girl takes him back reluctantly, ex hot girl misses loser and attempts to intercept but ends up looking like an idiot, loser kisses good girl while the ex looks on salty and heartbroken. The End. Yes I know I should get an award for summing up every single one of these movies in one broken but accurate sentence but hey, we keep on watching them.
I must say I was surprised at how good this one turned out to be, cliche plot and all. The combination of Kristin Bell’s ridiculously sexy legs along with Mila Kunis’s dusky beauty would make any guy wish he was in Bill Hader’s role, but all we get is fantasy and lets face it Mila stays on the screen. Russell Brand is the central comedy relief who stole the show for me however, playing the suave, zen buddhist, sex machine Aldous Snow. There are other interesting personalities scattered about but the out of place, British gentleman antics that Snow brings to the movie just flat out makes it great. So I want to say this chick flick will make my collection, I can watch it over and over… and no not for Mila, or Kristin, but for the movie as a whole, it was very funny. Homophobes beware… I think there was about one minutes worth of full frontal penis shots in this one… and it was done on purpose.
Heh, even I started off feeling uncomfortable, was about to walk out of the theater then boom it got funny as hell and never ended. Now that’s my kind of Chick Flick.
