The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

bbutton“life isn’t measured in minutes, but in moments”

A beautiful movie to be seen by all. Cate Blanchett was beauty in motion and Brad Pitt was powerful in heart. As a reminder of the trivial things we overlook in life and the importance of unselfish caring, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a movie to not only watch but own.

With solid CGI combined with breathtaking cinematography, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was akin to watching a canvas of renaissance era oil painting come to life on the big screen. It’s not just a should see, it’s a must see and you would be doing yourself a disservice as a movie-watcher to skip out on this one. Director David Fincher, normally directing darker films like Se7en, Fight Club and Zodiac, hits a homerun with this drama and with the talents of Cate Blanchett (one of the greater character actors of our time) and Brad Pitt, it was easy to like this movie.

They said I was gonna die soon but, maybe not.”

Benjamin Button is an odd man who lives a life not unlike our own but strangely enough his aging is in reverse. The internal mechanics of his humanity are familiar in every aspect but his outward appearance is what makes him unique. Benjamin Button ages in reverse, starting out as a wrinkled “old” baby, he grows into a hansome man and in his twilight years reverts to teenager, child and then baby. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button details the life of Ben as he is outcast for his looks at birth to then falling in love as an adult. His journey showcases many of the entertaining aspects of the early 1900s without force feeding you the basics of life during that time.

Without giving away too much, I will say that You will get a sense of Forest Gump from the transition of time as the cinematography details about five decades of American history with a splattering of comedy here and there. While most other movies depicting this time period focus heavily on America’s ugly racist ways, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button focuses specifically on the people in Ben’s life and does not veer away from the important elements. It is a unique experience in that motion and seeing the strength in Benjamin as he copes with rejection and acceptance leaves you with a lesson about forgiveness. It is one that we all need to be reminded of.

Huge acting, stellar cinematography and music that keeps you focused and attentive to the story, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a great movie.

Greg’s Candid Opinion (Spoiler Warning)
Beyond the story and the fact that two of my favorite actors are in this one together, I love this movie for one more reason. For a span in Ben’s life he has all the money he could want, he has a woman who is crazy about him and he has no other obstacle but time in sharing life with her. So what do they do? They f-ck like drugged rabbits for like 10 years straight, seriously, it was like: groceries, sex, eat, sex, cuddle, sex, walk out by the lake, sex, dinner, sex, rinse – repeat. It reminded me of college days when I spent many days at the apartment of my girlfriend at the time and life slowed down immensely for that entire semester, it was a great memory and it made me understand the happiness that Ben and daisy both felt with the freedom of just living , and having sexual freedom. How sexy was Cate Blanchett in this movie? Sheesh.
